UPPER HAND PRESS of Bexley, Ohio will August 1st, 2019 publish My Virtuous Sister, a new book by New York Times-acclaimed, UK-best-selling author of A Thing (or Two) About Curtis and Camilla, NICK FOWLER. The New York Times Book Review called Fowler “an expansive, lyrical, inventive writer” and compared him to Salinger. My Virtuous Sister, the tale of a fallen rock-and-roll star at a Y2K AA New Year’s Eve party, is narrated by the heroine’s brother, arrived in Manhattan from their home in Wales to find his sister after her disappearance to drug addiction following the loss of her record deal.
Author Bruce Jay Friedman calls the book “Stunning. Haunting. Fiercely and relentlessly engaging. This book will have a long shelf—like forever.”
When the Los Angeles Times praised Fowler’s first novel as “a smash, an irresistibly melodic debut that resonates like a perfect pop song,” they recognized him as a musician who’s achieved fame for his rock groups Tonto Tonto, MOTHER, and Maximillian is King. Fowler has appeared on The Tonight Show, and has composed songs for The Sopranos, 90210, and the hit slasher film, Dr. Giggles. Fowler has played Manhattan landmark The Iridium with Steve Stevens and had a residency at The Groove. Fowler performs in New York City hospitals for the charity Musicians on Call.
